Originating in Sweden, the polar star system saves home remodeling owners fuel and energy. The typical frame construction home was poorly insulated when it was constructed years ago. Oil and natural gas were cheaper then. The fact is that there are multiple voids and gaps in your homes' wall cavities. Tearing down the walls to reinsulate the house is not an option, so it has to be blown in. The steps are as follows.
First in the home insulation process is the drilling. The walls of the structure are drilled out every 16" corresponding to the cavities behind called bays, then a hose and nozzle is inserted into the wall and each bay is filled with blown in cellulose insulation. Cellulose insulation is non-toxic and flame retardant. Next an underlayment foam-board is installed over all wall areas. The most popular being 1/2'' thick with a foil backing. The foil is reflective by nature and additionally saves energy noted in energy audits.
Finally, a quality vinyl siding of varying styles and colors is installed on the entire house. All windows and doors are caulked with high grade silicone sealant and all weatherstripping issues are addressed. The result is a complete package not a cheap suit. Tax credits and energy rebates apply and offset costs.
Other home renovations to consider in this field are installation of hi grade thermal windows and insulated pipe wrapping products for your heating system. Install a clock thermostat as well. You may also close the gable vents in the attic space and install a continuous ridge vent system on your roof.
Vinyl siding in itself is a cost saver in and of itself. Besides saving fuel it eliminates the need for painting and adds curb appeal and resale value to all home renovations and home remodeling projects. Remember go green!
